Kannada practice should work for more learners

Nudi is being designed toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The private-launch website has not yet completed an independent accessibility audit, so this is a commitment and status report, not a conformance claim.

What we are building for

  • Keyboard access with a visible focus indicator.
  • Semantic headings, labels, landmarks, and useful link text.
  • Strong color contrast and feedback that never relies on color alone.
  • Responsive layouts that support zoom and larger text.
  • Reduced-motion behavior for non-essential animation.
  • Captions, transcripts, and text alternatives for audio activities.
  • Opt-in microphone permission, with a text or manual-answer fallback for every speaking activity.
  • Unicode-correct Kannada text that can be selected and enlarged.
  • English-keyboard transliteration with a visible Kannada preview for typed script and phrase exercises.

Language-learning choices

Learner transliteration remains optional. Learners can type phonetic English such as “hesaru” and review the Kannada preview before grading. Revealing it during a script task is treated as a hint, not a failure. Low-confidence or unavailable speech input asks the learner to try again or use the manual fallback; it never removes a heart or changes mastery.

Known private-launch limits

Screen-reader pronunciation of Kannada varies by device, browser, and installed voice. Nudi does not upload or store recordings, but a browser or device speech provider may process microphone audio under its own policy. Speech exercises and the full 50-unit course are still being expanded and tested. We are also validating conjunct rendering, keyboard entry, large-text layouts, and captions across iOS, Android, and responsive web.

Report a barrier

Please include the page, device, browser, assistive technology, and a short description of what happened. During the private launch, reply through the invitation or feedback channel that gave you access. We will acknowledge the issue and prioritize a practical alternative.
